Cajun Ranch Ingredients

Here are the simple key ingredients that make up Cajun ranch dressing. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Milk: Creates a thinner consistency and keeps the dressing creamy by combining with lemon juice to form a buttermilk substitute. Any fat content milk will work in this recipe.
  • Lemon juice: Combines with the milk to form a buttermilk substitute since buttermilk isn’t an ingredient everyone keeps on hand. Alternatively, you can replace the milk and lemon juice with one cup of buttermilk. Read more on this below.
  • Sour cream: Makes up the creamy base of the dressing. You could also use plain yogurt.
  • Mayonnaise: I like to use light mayo when making this recipe, it has all the flavor that regular mayo has but with less fat and calories.
  • Cajun seasoning: Gives this dressing its signature flavor! Made with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, cayenne pepper, and some other common spices, it is easy to make a catch of Cajun seasoning to keep on hand in your pantry.
  • Garlic: Fresh garlic adds an additional layer of savory flavor.
  • Dill: Dried dill adds an extra flavor profile to the sauce and mixes in better than fresh dill.
  • Salt and pepper

Cajun Seasoning Recipe

This savory Cajun Seasoning Recipe is a delicious and easy spice mixture that is perfect for dozens of recipes! Make a little bit for one recipe or a big batch to keep with your spices.

How to Make Cajun Ranch Dressing

This creamy ranch dressing with a cajun kick comes together in a snap. Be sure to see the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe and all measurements.

  • Combine the milk and lemon juice. Whisk together and let the mixture sit for five minutes. It will thicken as it sits so be sure to give it the full five minutes.
  • Whisk together the other ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sour cream and mayonnaise. Then add in the garlic, Cajun seasoning, dried dill, salt, and pepper.
  • Put it all together. Whisk in the milk mixture. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more Cajun seasoning, salt, or pepper as desired.

Buttermilk Substitute

Just like in my Cornbread recipe, we combine milk and lemon juice to create a buttermilk substitute. This is to make it an easier recipe to make with ingredients you are more likely to keep on hand. Be sure to let the mixture sit for the full five minutes before continuing on with the recipe.

If you have buttermilk on hand, you can replace the milk and lemon juice with one cup of buttermilk.

How to Enjoy Cajun Ranch

This Cajun ranch dressing has the best flavor and texture and can replace regular Ranch Dressing in your favorite salads and sandwiches, or as a dipping sauce for French Fries or onion rings.

I especially love the delicious combination of Cajun seasoning with creamy ranch on my Cajun Cobb Salad with crispy bacon, blackened shrimp, cream avocado, and crisp romaine lettuce.
