Smoothies are such a great snack. They come together quickly with simple ingredients and bring lots of great nutrition to your diet. You will love this amazing pineapple smoothie.

Smoothie Ingredients

Just four simple ingredients are needed for this pineapple banana smoothie. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe including all measurements.

  • Frozen pineapple: Adds a vibrant, tropical flavor and creates a naturally sweet and creamy texture. Using frozen fruit also means you don’t need to add ice, keeping the smoothie rich and flavorful. If you have fresh pineapple on hand, put the fresh pineapple chunks in the freezer for an hour or two before adding them to the smoothie.
  • Frozen bananas: Gives the smoothie a creamy consistency and adds natural sweetness. This is a great way to use up those ripe bananas! I share more on the best way to freeze bananas for smoothies below.
  • Milk: Helps everything mix together. Use any milk you prefer—dairy or dairy-free like almond milk, coconut milk, or oat milk. If you want to make a Piña Colada Smoothie, use coconut milk.
  • Pineapple juice: Enhances the tropical flavor and helps thin out the consistency of the smoothie. Use juice labeled 100% pineapple juice for best flavor.

Freezing Bananas

If you’ve ever tried to peel frozen bananas, you know it is quite tricky. Adding frozen bananas to smoothies is a great way to add flavor and creaminess. If you add them often, keeping frozen bananas on hand is a great hack to save time and use up those bananas getting too ripe on your countertop.

Simply peel them and place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for an hour, then transfer the frozen bananas to a freezer-safe bag and keep in the freezer for up to three months. You can see step-by-step photos and detailed instructions in the post linked in the box below.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Add more fruit: Add strawberries for a strawberry pineapple smoothie or frozen mango chunks for a mango pineapple smoothie. A handful of frozen blueberries would also be amazing in this.
  • Swap the pineapple juice for orange juice.
  • Add in chia seeds: These are a great way to add in a little protein and some more fiber.
  • Adjust the consistency: Make a thicker smoothie by adding less liquid; make a thinner smoothie by adding more milk.
  • Add sweetness: I don’t think this smoothie needs any additional sweetness, but occasionally my kids do. This is especially true if the banana is on the less ripe side. Honey and maple syrup both work really well as a sweetener in smoothies.

Make it a protein smoothie

A great way to give this smoothie a boost of protein is to add some protein powder. A scoop of vanilla protein powder would make this smoothie more filling without really affecting the flavor. You could also add some high protein yogurt or Greek yogurt.
