Happy Friday my friends! Can I tell you something that I worry will sound weird and bizarre?! I kind of wish I could host a huge Cinco de Mayo party and invite all of you. I would make my pico de gallo to top my Instant Pot chicken tacos. I would make some cilantro lime rice. I would make some pineapple mango salsa. And I would even make my mom’s guacamole to convince you all it is the best.
I realize this makes me a total weirdo, but the idea of sharing all of those recipes in person with all of you gives me goosebumps of happiness. Maybe it doesn’t make me a weirdo. Maybe it just means that I’m in the right line of work.
So if I can’t share them all these recipes in person with all of you, maybe you can make them for your loved ones. And of course, you should include this Strawberry Margarita.
What Do I Need to Make a Strawberry Margarita?
- A batch of Sweet and Sour Mix. This recipe is enough for two pitchers of margaritas, so it’s great to have on hand! It freezes well too!
- Tequila! Good quality tequila is key to making a really great batch of margaritas.
- Triple sec or orange liqueur
- Frozen strawberries
Once you see how easy these are to make, you will forever ditch the strawberry margarita mix! This recipe is so much better!
How to Make a Strawberry Margarita
For a great big pitcher of this margarita recipe (and trust me, you’ll want a big batch) mix your good quality tequila, the homemade Sweet and Sour Mix, a half cup of triple sec or orange liqueur and frozen strawberries in a blender. Mix until smooth and serve in a sugar rimmed glass immediately. On the rocks or frozen, this refreshing margarita will be a summertime favorite long past Cinco de Mayo!
Strawberry Margarita on the Rocks
Turn this strawberry margarita into a strawberry margarita on the rocks! Just use fresh strawberries instead of frozen! Blend the ingredients together and serve over ice. For a smoother cocktail, blend the sweet and sour mix and the strawberries together and then strain. Then shake with ice and the rest of your ingredients and serve on the rocks.
Variations
I love a good spin on a cocktail, you know that. And one of the things I love about making cocktails so much is that it is so easy to experiment! With baking you have to be precise in your measurements – you are basically doing a science project each time you throw in that loaf of Chocolate Chip Banana Bread. But with cocktails you can be a little more willy nilly.
Vodka – This recipe would absolutely work with vodka! It will not taste like a margarita. There is something about the way that sweet sour mix, tequila, and triple sec combine that is unique to margaritas. But it will be delicious.
Simple Syrup – You could replace the sweet and sour mix with simple syrup, though I would put in less and taste it as you go so that you don’t have an overly sweet drink.
Different Fruit! One of the things I love about this recipe is it is just a basic formula. Just like in my Three Ingredient Wine Slushies, you can swap out the frozen strawberries in this for a different frozen fruit and make a completely different spin. Or! Just replace part of the strawberries. This would be great with 1/2 cup frozen strawberries and 1/2 cup frozen mango!
How to Rim Glasses
I love adding a rim to the glasses of my margarita! For a traditional margarita, I go with kosher salt, but for this frozen strawberry margarita, I like using granulated sugar.
Just use a lime wedge with a slice in it, slide it around the rim of the glass, and then dip it in granulated sugar. For detailed pictures, check out my Spicy Pineapple Margarita.
