This French Bread Pizza makes such an easy weeknight dinner! Throw it together in 10 minutes with your favorite toppings.
This is our favorite date night recipe!
For our kids.
So often people point out to me how often Nathan and I go out on date nights. It’s true, we try to make it out at least once or twice a month, sometimes more. Date night has been the best gift we’ve ever given our marriage.
But! It means that we have to come up with something for our kids to eat before we head out. Enter this French Bread Pizza recipe! It comes together so quickly and my kids gobble it up!
How to Make French Bread Pizza
This french bread pizza recipe could not be easier. Here is a brief overview of how it comes together. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Prepare the bread. Cut the loaf in half and top each side generously with pizza sauce.
- Add the toppings. Then top generously with freshly grated mozzarella cheese (more on that in a moment) and all of your favorite pizza toppings.
- Bake the pizza. Bake for 15 minutes, slice up, and enjoy!
Homemade Pizza Sauce
What Bread to Get
While I love to make homemade pizza with homemade pizza dough, homemade french bread pizza has become a new staple around here. Start with a 16 ounce loaf of french bread that acts as the crust of the pizza. You are looking for a nice soft loaf, not a crusty baguette for dipping in soup.
Skip the Pre-Shredded Cheese
Please know that you will take your recipe up a notch when you take those extra few minutes to grate your own cheese from a block rather than buying pre-shredded cheese. To keep it from clumping together in the bag, pre-shredded cheese is covered with preservatives. Buying a block of cheese is so worth it. I promise it melts and tastes so much better.
Topping Ideas
The sky is the limit when it comes to toppings for this homemade pizza. Here are a few ideas.
- Meat: pepperoni, cooked ground sausage, cooked ground beef, ham, shrimp, Canadian bacon, cooked bacon.
- Veggies: chopped bell peppers, red onions, green or black olives, mushrooms
- Other: Saurcraut, pineapple, or fresh basil.
Storing and Reheating Leftovers
If you have any leftover pizza, cover or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat only the portion you plan to eat in the oven or air fryer until heated through.
Freezing French Bread Pizza
With how easy this recipe is to make, you might want to just make it fresh. But I know how great it is to have meals you can pull out of the freezer too. Here are the steps for freezing french bread pizzas.
- Prepare the pizza as though you were going to bake it.
- Put it in the freezer for two hours.
- Once completely frozen, put in an airtight container and freeze for up to three months. When you are ready to make your frozen pizza, bake the pizza for an extra 15 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
What to Serve with French Bread Pizza
There are so many great sides that would go perfectly with this recipe.
- These Baked Potato Wedges need to cook at the same temperature, so they would be perfect.
- I’m in love with this Cucumber Tomato Salad and the extra serving of vegetables it gives my kids.
- My Bacon Wrapped Asparagus also bakes at the same temperature and . . . bacon.
