When I learned about the invention of pudding shots my mind started spinning. I started thinking about all the amazing different things you could do with this basic easy recipe. I mean, talk about a blank canvas where the sky is the limit. Amiright?!? But what first came to mind was Birthday Cake Pudding Shots. YUMMY!
WHAT ARE PUDDING SHOTS
Pudding shots are Jell-O Shots’ creamy delicious dairy loving cousin. They combine:
- Instant Pudding Mix
- Cold Milk
- Alcohol (I tend to think vodka works best)
- And any other accoutrements you might need to pull of the proper flavor
Do you see what I mean about it being the perfect blank canvas? Are your wheels spinning too??
Okay, let’s start with these Birthday Cake Pudding Shots.
INGREDIENTS FOR BIRTHDAY CAKE PUDDING SHOTS?
We are going to start with Vanilla Instant Pudding Mix. You don’t need to worry about grabbing the other ingredients listed on the box because we are just going to use the dry mix. (Please note that you do not want to buy the Cook and Serve kind.)
Then we need to add in cold milk. You can use whatever kind you have on hand. I have made these with 2% and with skim. Going dairy free? Check the labels on your other boxes but I think that soy milk and almond milk would work just fine in this.
Now you need dry cake mix. You can grab white cake mix, yellow cake mix, or funfetti. All would work well, but funfetti is the most fun. ???? See what I did there??
Let’s add some vanilla. Vanilla extract really brings out the flavor in this recipe in the beasts way possible.
Whisk in some cake vodka. There are several different brands out there, and if you can’t find it, just grab some vanilla vodka or plain vodka. You can also buy the mini bottles if you don’t want to invest in a full bottle. It will be more expensive per ounce, but cheaper over all cost.
Don’t forget the whipped cream and sprinkles. These make for a fun presentation at the end.
HOW TO MAKE BIRTHDAY CAKE PUDDING SHOTS
This recipes involves whisking all the ingredients together really well in a medium sized bowl. A key to this recipe turning out perfect is to make sure there are no traces of either dry mix when you are done whisking.
Chill the recipe after it is fully combined. You want to chill it for at least two hours. Resist the urge to eat it straight from the bowl with a spoon.
Use a cake piping bag to pipe it into shot glasses. Or! Or you could add it to a ziplock bag and cut the tip off. (No judgement if you and your friends just pass around spoons and eat it right from the bowl.)
Top with whipped cream and sprinkles and enjoy!

Do I have to worry about treating/heating the dry cake mix due to raw flour?
Lisa Longley says
If you want to play it safe, you can bake it on a baking sheet at 350 for 5 minutes.
