- Add the chicken rub. Whether you use fresh, thawed, or frozen wings, rub them liberally with chicken rub. Then add them to the slow cooker and cover them in your favorite wing sauce.
- Cook the wings. Cook on low for three hours for fresh or thawed wings, or two and a half hours on high for frozen wings.
- Bake the chicken wings. If you want to crisp the skins (this is optional), pop the chicken wings in a hot oven for 10 minutes. Then pour sauce from the crock pot back over them or just throw them back in the slow cooker to keep warm.

Chicken Rub
You can use fresh or frozen wings, and start by rubbing them down with my Chicken Rub. I will be honest with you, this step is optional. However, I think it adds so much great flavor to the chicken and is a nice addition to this recipe without overpowering the sauce.

They can go right into your slow cooker frozen. Here are the cooking times depending on whether you use fresh chicken wings from your butcher or frozen chicken wings.

Do you think it would work with sweet chili sauce
Lisa Longley says
I think that would be delicious!

Can you use thighs instead of wind or both in this recipe?
Lisa Longley says
Hi Catherine! Do you mean drumettes? A lot of times stores sell drumettes and wings together and that will absolutely work with this.

Looks and sounds yum. Would it work using chicken fillets instead of chicken wings?
Lisa Longley says
You can for sure, but I would really watch the cooking time. Without bones they could easily get dried out.

Best wings I’ve ever eaten and my husband agrees too. I had 4 lbs of frozen party wings. I put all the seasonings in the crockpot but I added one half more. Meaning it called for 2 tablespoons I put in 3 ect.. I did not put the BBQ sauce in it and I cooked on low for 5 hours (it may have been done sooner but we were out and my crockpot went to warm mode). When we got home.i put them on a cookie sheet and put the BBQ sauce on them and broiled them for 5 minutes. So tender and amazing taste the rub definately compliment the BBQ sauce.
