This Dill Dip recipe is the perfect easy appetizer to make for any party! It comes together with just a few ingredients and is amazing served with chips or veggies. Make this dill dip recipe for your next get-together!
It’s almost time for the Super Bowl, and I think you all know my favorite part about game day season – the snacks! I have so many recipes that make great game day food . . . enough to make up a whole tailgating party. I love tailgating parties because they contain all of my favorite kinds of recipes.
This Dill Dip is the perfect recipe for game day. It whips up really quickly, making it a great last minute recipe if you are a guest. And it is delicious with chips or cut up veggies, making it essential if you are hosting.
I have made the dip many times, it’s awesome. The children and grandchildren give it a thumbs up.
Ingredients for Dill Dip
- Sour Cream: I always make this recipe with light sour cream, but you can feel free to use full fat if that is your preference.
- Mayonnaise: As with the sour cream, I make this recipe with light sour cream and it works perfect.
- Diced Onion: This brings a lot of the flavor to this recipe. If you don’t want to chop the onion, you can replace it with dried onion flakes. If you go that route, definitely make it ahead of time so the dried onion can infuse into the dip.
- Dried Herbs: Dried dill is a must for dill dip, and dried parsley adds to the flavor. You can use fresh herbs, but you will want to double the amount called for.
- Seasonings: Garlic powder and kosher salt round out the dip.
How to Make Dill Dip
Here is a brief overview of how this homemade dill dip recipe comes together with just a few simple ingredients. For the full recipe including all ingredients and their measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Mix all the ingredients together. Whisk together the sour cream, mayonnaise, diced onion, onion powder, dried dill weed, parsley, and salt.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve. Enjoy with chips or vegetables. I give some great options below.
Tips and Tricks For Serving
As I mentioned above, this dill dip recipe is great for both potato chips and vegetables. Here are a few tips to make it the best:
- I think this recipe gets better the longer it sits in your fridge, but I love that it takes only about five minutes of prep. It’s still great if you decide to just make it at the last minute too.
- If you don’t feel like dicing up an onion, just use some dried onion from the pantry.
- You can use regular mayo or light mayo.
- Serve with chips, crackers, sliced cucumbers, sliced bell peppers, carrots, celery sticks, and grape or cherry tomatoes.
- I love adding a little fresh dill to the top of this for color, but it’s definitely not necessary.
Storing Dill Dip
Keep this dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two days. If it sits out for more than two hours, toss it. Always use your best discretion when storing and eating leftovers.

Glory, you are my favorite. Your name suits you perfectly. The tray was a clearance rack find at Target years ago! I love it too! If I ever find something similar I will grab it for you!

I was visiting my daughter and she had veggies and dip. When I got home to Alabama I looked up a recipe and came upon this one. Started chuckling when I saw your Wisc. Badger theme. She lives in Oconomowoc and graduated from Univ. of Wi. I knew this was the recipe I was looking for. Thanks, it’s perfect.
I love this comment so much, Terry! Thank you so much for taking the time to come back and tell me!

How long does this last refrigerated? 😊
This tastes best when eaten within 24 hours, but will last in the refrigerator and still be delicious for four days.

I make dill dip with whole milk organic Greek yogurt, and small curd cottage cheese. It takes the calorie count down and boosts the nutrition. Add a tiny amount of garlic powder(not salt). Walmart has low sodium wavy chips and I find peeled & DE-SEEDED cucumber & carrot sticks perfect accompinaments to this dip.we don’t have the store you mention in Colorado.
