Ham and Cheese Sliders are the best solution for an easy dinner. These make the perfect party food, and will win over any crowd.
Sliders are my favorite easy recipe ever. They are layer upon layer of deliciousness. They take minutes to make, but can feed a dozen people. And the flavor possibilities are endless.
Ham and Cheese Sliders are a classic. Made on Hawaiian rolls and with the best sauce on top, these are going to be a huge hit no matter who you serve them to.
These were a huge hit when I brought them to the party. Not only are the flavors delicious together but it’s a breeze to make!
How to Make Ham and Cheese Sliders
This is a brief overview of how to make these delicious hot ham and cheese sliders. For the full recipe with all of the measurements, please see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half. I like to use a large serrated knife for this and place one hand on top of the rolls while cutting with the other hand.
- Add the filling. Layer the bottom half of the rolls with half the ham, all of the cheese, and then the rest of the ham.
- Add the top half of the rolls.
- Pour the sauce over the top of the rolls. Cover the baking dish with foil and then bake.
Ham and Cheese Slider Sauce
One of the best parts of this recipe is the sauce that you pour over the top. It brings so much flavor to these and takes them from a sandwich to a recipe that you will make for parties over and over.
The combination of butter, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and dried minced onions is perfection. If you are making this recipe ahead of time, you will want to wait until right before baking make and pour on the sauce.
How to Bake Sliders
These need to bake long enough so that the cheese melts throughout the whole pan of sliders. However, if you bake them too long the top will burn.
It is important that for the first 15 minutes of the baking time they are covered with foil. In the last 10 minutes of baking, the foil comes off and it allows the tops of the sliders to crisp up in the best way.
Substitutions and Variations
I think that the flavors in this sauce work great with ham and Swiss cheese, but you could definitely use other meats and cheeses as well.
- Roast Beef and Cheddar
- Turkey and Colby Jack
- Salami and Provolone
Rolls for Sliders
These Hawaiian Ham and Cheese Sliders are made with Hawaiian rolls. The subtle sweetness of the rolls pairs perfectly with the rest of the ingredients in this recipe. That being said, you can definitely use plain rolls with this recipe and it will be delicious. Additionally, my dinner roll recipe is a great to use if you want to make your own rolls.
Dinner Rolls For Sliders
Making Ahead
If you want to prep these ahead of time, make them up to the point of putting on the sauce. Hold off on making the sauce until right before they are going to go in the oven. Be sure to store the sliders, covered, and in the refrigerator if you make them in advance.
FAQ
If you use a package of 24 slider rolls, and you are serving this at a party with lots of other food and side dishes, I would count on 1 to 2 sliders per person. If this is dinner for your family, you might want to bank on 3 sliders per person.
It is all in the way you bake it. Covering with foil for part of the baking time keeps them from burning, but removing the foil for the last portion of baking is what keeps them from getting soggy.

When Sliders are Dinner
If you are serving these for dinner with your family, here are a few sides that would pair very well with these. Since your oven will be occupied with the sliders, none of these require baking.
When Sliders are Party Food
If this is part of a spread for a party, here are a few other dishes that would be fantastic to put out. All of these can be made ahead of your party.
I love being a small part of your dinners and celebrations. If you make this ham and cheese sliders recipe, or any of my recipes, please leave me a comment and let me know what you think!

My boyfriend said these are some of the best sliders he’s ever had. Not one piece was left just between the two of us! Lol. Thank you for this delicious recipe!
Lisa Longley says
I’m so glad that it was a hit for you both!
Heather Cristler says
Do you recommend using Hawaiian sweet rolls or the Hawaiian butter rolls? I was just curious since there is brown sugar I didnt know if they would be too sweet if I used the sweet rolls.
Lisa Longley says
I think both would be delicious, and it is just a matter of preference. I make these with the sweet rolls and they aren’t too sweet.

Can your ham and cheese sliders be made with spam? Like the newest spam, bacon flavored?it’s supposed to taste like bacon (but if you ask me it tastes like rath ham) or maybe sloppy Joe? Thanks this is better than the expensive White Castle burger.
Lisa Longley says
I’m sorry, George, I don’t have experience working with Spam.
Jodi says

I’m obsessed with these sliders. Literally can’t get enough of them, but I’m having a hard time getting them out of the oven without soggy bottoms. Any tips? Thank you!
Lisa Longley says
Have you tried this recipe? I haven’t had that experience with this one at all. With others, I would guess that it’s too much sauce over the top.
Janelle says
Delicious! I had these many times made by others but had never made them myself. We enjoyed them! Thanks! Will try some of the other slider suggestions as well.
Lisa Longley says
I’m so glad that you liked them!
Katie says
Just curious…what would be another good substitute for the butter? Didn’t know if olive oil would work well? Thanks!
Lisa Longley says
In this particular recipe I don’t know that I would swap out the butter. The buttery flavor can’t be beat and I just don’t think an oil is going to do these justice.
Rachel Dreyer says
Salted or unsalted butter?
Lisa Longley says
I’ve used both in this recipe and enjoyed both!
