Sliders are my favorite easy recipe ever. They are layer upon layer of deliciousness. They take minutes to make, but can feed a dozen people. And the flavor possibilities are endless.

Ham and Cheese Sliders are a classic. Made on Hawaiian rolls and with the best sauce on top, these are going to be a huge hit no matter who you serve them to.

Reader Review

These were a huge hit when I brought them to the party. Not only are the flavors delicious together but it’s a breeze to make!

How to Make Ham and Cheese Sliders

This is a brief overview of how to make these delicious hot ham and cheese sliders. For the full recipe with all of the measurements, please see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  1. Cut the Hawaiian rolls in half. I like to use a large serrated knife for this and place one hand on top of the rolls while cutting with the other hand.
  2. Add the filling. Layer the bottom half of the rolls with half the ham, all of the cheese, and then the rest of the ham.
  3. Add the top half of the rolls.
  4. Pour the sauce over the top of the rolls. Cover the baking dish with foil and then bake.

Ham and Cheese Slider Sauce

One of the best parts of this recipe is the sauce that you pour over the top. It brings so much flavor to these and takes them from a sandwich to a recipe that you will make for parties over and over.

The combination of butter, brown sugar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds, and dried minced onions is perfection. If you are making this recipe ahead of time, you will want to wait until right before baking make and pour on the sauce.

How to Bake Sliders

These need to bake long enough so that the cheese melts throughout the whole pan of sliders. However, if you bake them too long the top will burn.

It is important that for the first 15 minutes of the baking time they are covered with foil. In the last 10 minutes of baking, the foil comes off and it allows the tops of the sliders to crisp up in the best way.

Substitutions and Variations

I think that the flavors in this sauce work great with ham and Swiss cheese, but you could definitely use other meats and cheeses as well.

Rolls for Sliders

These Hawaiian Ham and Cheese Sliders are made with Hawaiian rolls. The subtle sweetness of the rolls pairs perfectly with the rest of the ingredients in this recipe. That being said, you can definitely use plain rolls with this recipe and it will be delicious. Additionally, my dinner roll recipe is a great to use if you want to make your own rolls.

Dinner Rolls For Sliders

Dinner Rolls that come together in about an hour are basically magic. These homemade dinner rolls are easy to make, light and fluffy, and perfect for weeknight dinners or holiday meals!

Making Ahead

If you want to prep these ahead of time, make them up to the point of putting on the sauce. Hold off on making the sauce until right before they are going to go in the oven. Be sure to store the sliders, covered, and in the refrigerator if you make them in advance.

FAQ

How many does this serve?

If you use a package of 24 slider rolls, and you are serving this at a party with lots of other food and side dishes, I would count on 1 to 2 sliders per person. If this is dinner for your family, you might want to bank on 3 sliders per person.

How do you keep sliders from getting soggy?

It is all in the way you bake it. Covering with foil for part of the baking time keeps them from burning, but removing the foil for the last portion of baking is what keeps them from getting soggy.

If you are serving these for dinner with your family, here are a few sides that would pair very well with these. Since your oven will be occupied with the sliders, none of these require baking.

I see that Jordyn posted asking about soggy bottoms of the sliders. I put mine on a wire rack before I put them in my oven so the liquid won’t sog up the bottom of the sandwich. Just a suggestion. Plus these are so good. Thank you for posting 🥰🥰

I cut the amount of brown sugar in half, used medium cheddar cheese and Hawaiian savory rolls. We love this dish and I make it for family gatherings.

Thank you, this was delicious!!! MY family loved them! We have left overs and I was curious how you have reheated them and if they are still good reheated. I would think they would still be delicious, and will be finding out! As a side note, I used Everything Bagel Seasoning seed’s which included poppy seeds.
    Thank you again,

Meant to tell you that my family gave it 5 Stars!

  8. Tammy Blew says

How do you keep these warm during a party?

    • Lisa Longley says

These aren’t the best for a party where things need to be kept warm for a long time. These are a bit better to bring out when the whole crew is there and ready to eat.

  9. Liz Murray says

So, is it a pound of ham and a pound of cheese for 12 rolls or for 24 rolls?? Thank you.

    • Lisa Longley says

This recipe works with either 12 rolls or 24 rolls. You are looking for a set of rolls from the store that will slide perfectly into a 9 by 13 inch pan. So that’s either 12 large rolls or 24 small rolls.
