This Loaded Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Bark is BURSTING with the perfect flavor combo, but it’s a bark, so it’s way easy!

They did a segment on the radio yesterday:  What are you going to tell your family at Thanksgiving that they have no clue about?

You guys, there was a girl who called in who is going to tell her parents, her parents who have given her tens of thousands of dollars (!!) to go to school, that she hasn’t actually been in school. Yikes! I half want to be a fly on the wall when she tells them and I half would be way too scared!

You guys, why does Thanksgiving, such a chill happy holiday all about food, why does it have to evoke such family drama??

I love my family way too much to air our family Thanksgiving drama on the blog, but let’s just say we’ve had our moments. I mean, not “Hey dad I just wasted 20k dollars” moments. But moments.

And I’m not alone. (Right??)  I mean, in this day and age when lots of people my age celebrate four (FOUR) Thanksgivings because both sides of the family have divorces and remarriages, I mean with that many turkey days, you are bound to find yourself in some drama.

A stack of the Loaded Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Bark has a light brown layer topped with chocolate and Reese's Pieces.

In all seriousness, Thanksgiving always feels rough for me (even without the drama). It’s the last holiday that I celebrated with my mom. She was too sick to do much of the cooking, my brother literally pulled a recliner chair into the kitchen so she could supervise in comfort, but we were together.

My mom was good at so many things. But definitely at the top of that list were cooking and being the most amazing and empathetic shoulder and ear. I miss so much about her. I miss her all the time. But today I’m especially missing her loving and kind support.

This bark is no replacement for my mom (I mean, duh.) but it is really really good. And for a second when you put it in your mouth and taste the perfect combo of chocolate and peanut butter you forget about the drama and all is right in the world.

I love bark. It is the lazy baker’s answer to . . . everything. It’s just spreading layers, refrigerating, another layer or two, and then you break it apart and start eating. This bark tastes just like a peanut butter cup but without all the work!

Loaded Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Bark

Serves: 20 pieces
(tap # to scale)
This Loaded Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Bark is BURSTING with the perfect flavor combo, but it's a bark, so it's way easy!

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups chocolate chips I used milk chocolate, divided
  • 1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter I used JIF
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons butter softened
  • 1 cup Reese’s Pieces

Instructions

  • Line a 10 by 15 inch pan with wax paper.
  • Melt 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate and spread it over the wax paper. It won’t reach all the way to the edge of the pan. Put it in the refrigerator to set.
  • Combine the peanut butter, powdered sugar, and butter. I put mine in the microwave during mixing for 10 to 15 seconds to help with mixing. Spread it over the chocolate layer evenly.
  • Put the pan back in the refrigerator to set.
  • Melt the remaining 2 cups chocolate chips and then spread over the peanut butter layer. Top with the Reese’s Pieces. Let set and then break apart. Store in an airtight container.

OMG. My brother kind of did that. My parents gave him some money for law school and then he got reimbursed through his job, didn’t tell them, and then they found out and were so upset that he’d just kept the money without asking! Aaaaaah!
I would love for some family drama to come roaring out tomorrow. Then maybe everyone would storm out and leave me alone at the table with the pie.
This bark looks better than pie, gotta tell ya. Wish I was having this!

    • Lisa Longley says

Seriously, you leave the BEST comments, Mir. And that is CRAZY about your brother!!!

Ian and I joke about moving to a remote island just so we can spend the holidays with no family drama at all :) a girl can dream right, and right now I am dreaming of this bark. big kisses to you

  3. Jessica Ford says

No family drama at our Thanksgiving table, but one year my mother-in-law walked out holding a dish and said, “This is aspic. The thing everyone hates.”

I might need to make this bark today. It looks amazing!

    • Lisa Longley says

      OMG, lol!

  4. [email protected] says

I kinda hate holidays. With my parents being divorced, remarried and me being divorced its just a big drag trying to make time for everyone. I would definitely drown my sorrows in this bark. My favorite combo!

    • Lisa Longley says

Ugh, that does sound like a drag!! Here’s hoping for easier years and the future and more bark to get you through it Ashley!

  5. Evana says

Love this recipe! just a question: in the ingredients you listed 3 1/2 cups chocolate chips but in the instructions you actually used 4 cups (1 1/2 + 2 1/2). which is correct? thanks!

    • Lisa Longley says

Stupid mommy brain, why must you always make our shame so public? Thanks for catching this! It’s 3 1/2 cups. :)

  6. Ashley says

How long do you need the layers to set in the fridge? And do you store in a container in fridge or on counter? Thanks!

    • Lisa Longley says

Roughly a half hour, and you can store on the counter :)

  7. Shelly Hailey says

Have you used chocolate almond bark instead of chips?

    • Lisa Longley says

I haven’t Shelly, but I have friends who swear by it. Use what you are comfortable with.

  8. Ashley says

Yummy! Pinned. :) Your pictures look so delicious! Thanks.

    • Lisa Longley says

      Thank you Ashley!!!

  9. Rusty F says

Glad I found this. Just made it for a Halloween party. The couple pieces I ate while breaking the bark were pretty good haha

  10. P€ARL says

    4 stars
Better then Reese’s peanut butter cups. I used 3 cups milk chocolate chips (1.5 cups per layer), had a quarter of the peanut butter filling leftover, and did not use Reese’s pieces as that would’ve been too much extra sugar and it was perfect.
