  • 16 ounces French Bread cut into cubes, and dried, see note (453.6 grams)
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk (354.9 ml)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (81.9 ml)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (99 grams)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Spray your crockpot with cooking spray and set aside.
  • In a large bowl combine the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla extract. Whisk until all the eggs are fully broken down and the mixture is smooth.
8 eggs, 1 1/2 cups whole milk, 1/2 cup heavy cream, 2 teaspoons vanilla extract, 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • Toss the egg mixture with the bread until all of the bread is fully coated. Pour the mixture into the slow cooker.
    16 ounces French Bread
  • Cook on high for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or on low for 3 to 4 hours. You know your casserole is done when the edges begin to brown and pull away from the edges of the crockpot. Mine is done at 3 hours, but slow cookers vary in their temperature and cooking time.
  • Cut, serve, and enjoy with powdered sugar and syrup.

Notes

You are looking for approximately 10 cups of dried bread cubes. If you buy a 16 ounce loaf of French bread, cut it into cubes, and dry overnight, you can use all of that. You can also put the fresh soft cubes onto parchment-lined baking sheets and bake for 30 minutes at 250 degrees (toss halfway through baking) and use right away.
