This Philly Cheese Steak Crescent Ring is the perfect easy dinner! It’s only a few easy ingredients, it’s easy to put together, and it makes for the best, most delicious weeknight meal.
Serve it alongside a bowl of creamy tomato bisque or with some brown sugar roasted sweet potatoes! Or have it as a game day appetizer with some jalapeño popper potato skins and some of the best guacamole!
Sooooo, last year I made this Philly Cheese Steak Casserole. And everyone on Facebook lost their minds. I didn’t get any death threats from Philly natives, but you know what, I think that’s because they are good people who were showing some serious self restraint. The comments were endless. There was hamburger meat where there should have been actual steak. There were no mushrooms. It resembled a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich in absolutely no way.
Then.
Then I made these Easy Philly Cheesesteak Sliders Recipe and people went actually bananas. They told me that it was an affront to humanity to call those sandwiches anything Philly. Comment after comment after comment. But! I also got comments from lots of people who made them and loved them.
I had a conversation with the amazing Kellie from Suburban Soapbox, a Philly native and she basically said, “Look. The sandwiches look good. They do. But these people are not wrong. You can’t call those Philly Cheese Steaks.” I love Kellie.
What I have come to realize is that actually, the people of Philadelphia are my people. Anyone who can get that rilled up about a sandwich, anyone who has that much passion in their hearts about food. I mean those are my people.
And . . . yet. Here I am again to bring another non-Philly Philly Cheese Steak recipe. Oye. I’m sorry guys! I fully admit that these don’t do a Philly Cheese Steak recipe justice. But I am naming it that for the rest of the country. People who will be educated by this post, but will also make this Philly Cheese Steak Crescent Ring and read the title and know exactly what is in it, even though they are totally wrong about how it relates to Philly.
PUTTING TOGETHER A PHILLY CHEESE STEAK CRESCENT RING
This crescent ring recipe is super easy to put together! Start with two packages of refrigerated crescent dough. Separate out the triangles and make a ring. I just eye balled it. No need for perfectionism here, guys.
Next you want to add some roast beef. Again, I’m sorry, Philadelphia.
Now top it with sautéed green peppers and onions. Obviously if mushrooms are your thing, throw them in. If you are from Philadelphia and questioning the green peppers and onions . . . . you probably aren’t going to be making this anyway.
Now top it with some sliced provolone cheese.
Fold the crescent rolls up and over the cheese and try to tuck them in a little underneath.
Bake that bad boy up and serve! This would be a great game day appetizer or a super easy delicious dinner!
I’ve always thought that crescent rings looked super fancy and would be too tricky to make, because spacing those triangles perfectly, and the toppings and the tucking, oh my! (It’s okay if you are making fun of me right now). But this turned out easier than easy to make. This will not be your last crescent ring from Simple Joy my friends. It also won’t be the last Philly Cheese Steak like thing that is not a Philly Cheese Steak. ????

Philly Cheese Steak Crescent Ring
Ingredients
- 2 8 ounce crescent roll dough packages unrolled and separated
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 white onion diced small
- 1/2 green pepper diced small
- 1/2 pound thinly sliced deli roast beef (I used just under a half pound)
- 8 ounces provolone cheese
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onions and peppers and saute until soft, about 5 to 7 minutes.
- Create a ring with the crescent dough on the parchment paper.
- Add the roast beef and then top with the sautéed onions and peppers.
- Finally, top with provolone cheese and then pull the crescent dough over the cheese and tuck it to the inside of the ring.
- Bake the ring for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown. Cut with a pizza cutter and serve!

First… no roast beef. You need to use shaved steak.
Second… no peppers or mushrooms. No one from Philly eats that. Add extra fried onions.
Third… American Cheese or Whiz.

I have made the steak version with Montreal steak seasoning with mushrooms and the taco ground beef version. The steak version I add cream cheese and the taco version I use Colby jack cheese. It is so flaky and wonderful with tomato avocado lettuce and a sauce of choice for me. My family likes it right out the oven as is. A must try….
